  Mike Hurry                       
Mike is the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters as well as an accomplished mountain climber. He has climbed mountains on five continents, including Mount Everest.

Message
In addition to his leadership of Big Brothers of Sarnia-Lambton for over the past 31 years, Mike has also taken on the responsibilities of Big Sisters locally. Mike provides the technical guidance to the Project Kenya team as an experienced mountain climber. Mike has previously tackled Mount Everest, Mount McKinley and Aconcagua, to name a few. It is his experience of overcoming difficult terrain, high altitudes and personal obstacles that is helping the team for the challenging Mount Kenya climb.

Mike is well known in the Sarnia-Lambton community as both a mentor and advocate for youth. He is passionate about the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters staff and volunteers in providing positive role models to youth.

  Jim Janzen                                         As the President and CEO of the YMCA, Jim has dedicated his career to building strong kids, strong families and strengthening community. 

Message
Jim has been a YMCA leader and professional for 28 years – the last 11 as a Y executive leader in Ontario. In addition to his work in the growth and development of youth through the Y, Jim has managed Y residential camps, outdoor education centres and urban Y branches across Canada. Jim oversees the conceptual design of the program. He’s designed numerous leadership opportunities for young people during his career and has been involved in a number of international development projects with the YMCA in Central America. He currently leads the Y’s relationship with its international partner in Guatemala, and is a Fellow of the Society of Camp Directors of Canada.

Jaci Bork
Program Coordinator
As a supporter of the Big Brothers of Sarnia-Lambton, Jaci has participated in both Climb for Kids Kilimanjaro 2009 and Everest 2011.

Message
Jaci regularly volunteers within the Sarnia-Lambton community as well as coaches at a local boxing club. By sharing her leadership and travel experiences, as well a time spent on Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Everest, she prepares and develops this team of young people to ensure a successful adventure. Jaci is responsible for coordinating the leadership team of staff and volunteers as well as the young adults within the program.

  

Joe Cebulski
Program Facilitator
As the supervisor of the YMCA Leadership & Challenge Centre, Joe helps youth on a daily basis develop important leadership skills.


Message
Joe first joined the YMCA as the Skills Link coordinator in Sarnia, helping youth-at-risk gain important employment skills to enable them to enter the workforce. Prior to returning to his hometown, Joe worked as an outdoor educator at the Y in San Diego as well as program director for a summer camp in New York. As the supervisor of the YMCA Leadership and Challenge Centre, Joe works closely with the Project Kenya team in leadership and team development.

As the Preschool and Youth Supervisor at the YMCA , Patrick and his team strive to give kids as many opportunities to learn, grow and develop through recreational programming.

Message
Pat holds an Honours in Outdoor Recreation at Brock University in St. Catharines, and has been the Assistant Camp Director (Head Counselor) at Camp Big Canoe, an overnight camp for children aged 7-15.

Career Development
As the Program Manager, Employment and Community Programs, Tracey leads the Y team works with vulnerable youth in our community.

Message
During her 23 year YMCA career, Tracey has worked with many at-risk youth and knows the difference having a positive influence can make in the life of a youth. Tracey also shares important employability skills and information with the Project Kenya team, helping them with their future careers.

Serving as the YMCA’s VP Financial Development & Community, Learning and Careers, Mike provides fundraising guidance and leadership to the team.

Message   
Mike has worked for the YMCA for over 30 years; the majority of this time was spent with the YMCA of Calgary. He has had a lifelong involvement with Y residential camping and outdoor education. Mike is sharing his passion for philanthropy with the team. He plays a key role in helping youth understand the impact philanthropy can have on an individual as well as a community. Mike handles the variety of community connections the team requires throughout the program

Kathy Ure

 Kathy packs as much into her day as her punch, at Bluewater Health where she is a full-time operating room nurse.

Message
Kathy, a repeating Ontario Provincial Bantam-weight Champion and National Gold Medalist in 2003. She has since retired from competing, but is now involved as both a level 3 coach and level 3 boxing official.  Additionally, she serves on the executive for Boxing Ontario and helps train current National athletes. Her efforts outside of the ring have been focused on generating awareness of boxing through media appearances and the many volunteer groups she works for. Kathy’s love of boxing has lead her to design and instruct a nation wide program called “Box-On”, teaching youth in public schools and high schools as well as adults.
